Imagine traveling over a thousand miles, not for a vacation, but for the sheer joy of singing along to your idol! That's precisely what dedicated fans of Robbie Williams are doing, proving that his music transcends borders and connects deeply with hearts.
This year has been a whirlwind for Robbie Williams, marked by significant achievements like shattering Beatles chart records and even attempting to connect with a superfan featured in a Netflix documentary about his former band, Take That. Now, the charismatic singer is back on tour, and his most devoted followers are embarking on epic journeys to witness his performances live. We've spoken to some of these superfans to understand the powerful bond they share with him.
"He's one of the most sensitive and beautiful souls in the world," one fan shared, encapsulating the profound admiration many feel.
Liga Bri, for instance, has journeyed an astonishing 1,609 kilometers (over 1,000 miles) from her home in Latvia with one singular mission: to see her hero, Robbie Williams, in concert. She explained, "Over time I connected more and more with him as a person – his struggles, his story." This deep personal connection fuels her dedication.
Liga recently experienced Williams' performance in Liverpool as part of his Long 90's tour and was set to see him again in Wolverhampton. This would mark her 22nd time singing along to his hits, a testament to her unwavering loyalty. Her fan experience even reached a peak when she was called onto the stage during a concert in Lithuania. In a unique segment of the tour, Williams would select a different woman at each show to dedicate his song 'She's the One' to, right in front of the entire audience.
Her adoration for the Stoke-on-Trent native began in 1997, when she was just 14 years old. The very first album she ever purchased was his debut, 'Life Thru a Lens', on cassette. She recalls, "At the time I thought he was really handsome and cool, because he wasn't like everyone else." Nearly three decades later, her devotion remains as strong as ever, so much so that she has the lyrics from her favorite song, 'Love My Life', tattooed on her arm. This tattoo holds extra significance because Robbie Williams himself wrote the words on her skin during a meet-and-greet in Lithuania in 2017. She shared, "It was quite a sad and dark period in my life so I wanted to tattoo those lyrics to remind me life can be beautiful – and I was so happy he agreed to write them." While the saying goes "never meet your heroes," the 43-year-old fan strongly disagrees, finding Williams to be remarkably down-to-earth.
But here's where it gets truly inspiring: Edite Kirse, also from Latvia, has made the journey to see Robbie Williams, having become friends with Liga through their shared passion. Edite, 40 years old, has been a fan since her teenage years, initially drawn to his "bad boy image." She described the aura surrounding Robbie Williams at that time as "truly spectacular." For Edite, Robbie's music serves as a vital escape, especially given the challenges of raising a child with special needs. She recently described a performance in Riga as an "absolute energy supercharge" after rushing to the front row.
And this is the part most people miss: the enduring appeal of Robbie Williams spans generations. At 66 years old, Rita Gulrajani remains incredibly devoted, admitting she's "crazy about him." She humorously adds, "Now I've given up work, I spend my life chasing Robbie and the boys around!" Rita travels from north London to see him in Wolverhampton but has previously followed him across the globe, attending concerts in Las Vegas, Athens, Krakow, and Dublin. She's lost count of how many shows she's attended! She's even had the heartwarming experience of him hugging her and congratulating her on her birthday. She explained her earlier fandom was tempered by raising young children, but now, she's a "crazy fan."
Like the other fans, Rita highlights Williams' relatable persona. "His normality – he's not like a star, he behaves like a normal person," she stated. She appreciates his openness about his life experiences, making his music incredibly relatable. For her, his concerts are a "happy place" and "pure escapism."
Michelle Power, a nurse from Corby, Northamptonshire, has attended around 30 concerts. She even had her husband camp out with her at Wembley for a performance! She met Williams at a meet-and-greet in Las Vegas in 2019 and has traveled to see him in Madrid. When asked about her admiration, she pointed to his personality and his tendency to "wear his heart on his sleeve." She praised him as an "amazing, great performer, great singer, he puts on a great show" and emphasized his genuine care for his fans, noting that he often meets them before and after shows, a rarity among stars.
